Role description: Arcadis is seeking an experienced Staff Geologist to join our growing Environmental Business Line in our Hanover Maryland Office.
This is an exciting, growth opportunity for an experienced geologist to join a growing team in one of the best-qualified consulting firms in the country.
The Staff Geologist will support environmental investigation, remediation and permitting projects, incident response and recovery (IRR) projects, and will work alongside and support senior-level managers on multiple projects.
This position requires a mixture of office activities and fieldwork.
The successful candidate must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time.
Travel may include overnight stays within the Mid-Atlantic region.
Role accountabilities: This position may be in the field up to 75% of the time initially, depending on project staffing needs with a focus towards developing a more balanced office/field split (50/50).
Fieldwork may include drilling oversight for soil sampling and/or groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, excavation oversight, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys, environmental remediation design tasks, including soil and groundwater remedial systems Assist Project and Associate Project Managers (PM/APM) with planning environmental investigation and remediation tasks (Task Manager) Working effectively and collaboratively in team situations and establishing strong relationships with other teams where overlap of client project work exists Support environmental investigations and remediation projects to include directing the day-to-day activities of junior level staff; schedule and coordinate task resources, and solicit guidance from senior level technical staff and PM/APM Provide emergency response support (environmental sample planning and collection, rail client and state/federal regulator correspondence, onsite contractor oversight) for train derailments/HAZMAT spills, with the potential to travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region Office work may include task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimate preparation, health & safety plan preparation, report writing Regulatory file review, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts Address client and regulatory comments on deliverables and drive the strategy in achieving comment resolution (with PM/APM guidance) Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality and safety standards Interface directly with clients and may serve as point of contact for various size projects The successful candidate will have: Superior communication skills, both oral and written; skills to include public speaking, ability to communicate effectively as part of a team, and preparation/development of technical documents Client-facing experience and a basic understanding of client development and maintenance Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or other related discipline 5-10 years of relevant experience 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training Previous experience with task management to include controlling scope, schedule, budget, and ensuring adherence to Health and Safety Requirements Working familiarity with CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, or State level regulated remediation (e.
g.
, State Voluntary Remediation Programs) Cost estimating – Candidate should have sufficient experience with routine environmental tasks (e.
g.
, field sampling technologies and methods, lab coordination, supporting subcontractor oversight of utility clearance, surveyors, etc.
) to develop cost estimates for establishing budgetary estimates Previous environmental sampling experience Previous experience with subcontractor procurement and management (e.
g.
, preparation of request for bids, preparation of scope of work, ensure work is completed in accordance with scope of work and H&S requirements) Candidate should be health and safety focused, and able to work successfully in a team setting Per security requirement, must be a U.

Citizen, able to gain security clearance, and able to pass a thorough background check Preferred Qualifications Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or other related discipline More than 10 years of relevant experience with either Federal Department of Defense (USACE, AFCEC, etc.
