Job Description
The Technology Project Manager will be responsible for managing leading-edge multi-year programs, including associated HW and/or SW developments, testing and deployment support, and management of Technology-driven deliverables and milestones.
This will include planning and managing the schedule, budget and cross-functional deliverables.
The project manager works directly with the Science & Technology group, Program Management Organization (PMO), Product Management, Engineering, Services, Manufacturing, Sales and Contract organizations to understand internal and external customer requirements, develop project plans and drive the project on schedule and budget.
The project manager is expected to develop and maintain key relationships with external agencies, customers, and industrial partners, and must have the ability to prioritize tasks, communicate project status up and down and influence the team in a matrix driven organization.
Duties & Responsibilities Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, Services, Manufacturing, Sales and Contracts to understand internal and external project requirements.
Engage with the Cross Functional leads to understand product capabilities and potential risks or challenges of request Thoroughly understand and implement the PLP Stage Gate Development framework Work with the team to identify and manage project risks Establish mitigation plans, identify trigger events, and initiate corrective action plans Prioritize team efforts and identify project timeline to meet customer needs Lead and influence cross-functional teams to accomplish project goals Lead project reviews, technical interchange meetings and design reviews Ensure project are run compliantly and that all project and contract deliverables are met Ensure a smooth transition of project from engineering to production and to the field Communicate status and priorities to the team, communicate plans to upper management Provide regular status updates to internal and external customers Explain complex technical concepts to a broad audience Thoroughly understand the Smiths Detection process for New Product Introduction and all regulatory requirements Act as the central point of contact for project May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of staff as appropriate to the area of operation May advise team on potential solutions, partnerships, and approaches in area(s) of expertise Able to travel in the field to support development and customers Able to deploy equipment to customers if required Must comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety and environmental policies.

The Individual BS degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university in Business, Engineering, or related technical discipline; additional educational training and/or skills training preferred Experience in project and program management Excellent written and oral communication skills Familiarity with security detection technologies, integrated products and networked systems, or large hardware or software based solutions preferred Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise Ability to contribute to the design of new products and of product architectures Ability to function within a large global team spanning functions and time zones Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures Security: The candidate must possess or be able to successfully obtain a US Security Clearance at the SECRET level and/or US Government vetting to work on sensitive programs Physical/Mental Requirements: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
Ability to participate in a team development environment.
Good written and oral communication skills.
