Job Summary: The Woodworking and CNC Technician is responsible for operating CNC machines used in laser and woodworking processes.
This role involves working with various wood materials to produce high-quality finished products based on specifications and designs.
The Technician is expected to have a solid understanding of woodworking techniques, proficiency in operating CNC machinery, and the ability to troubleshoot and make adjustments as needed.
Additionally, the technician must adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Responsibilities: Woodworking Process: - Interpret drawings or design specifications to understand project requirements.
- Select appropriate wood materials, considering factors such as grain, texture, and quality, to achieve desired results.
- Operate traditional woodworking tools (e.
g.
table saw, mitre saw, hand router, jointer, planer) to prepare materials for CNC machining if required.
- Collaborate with designers or clients to review project details, make suggestions, and ensure accurate implementation.
- Measure and inspect finished products to verify compliance with customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Projects may include cutting boards, wood boxes, signage, etc.
Quality Control and Safety: - Follow established safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries during woodworking operations.
- Perform regular checks on finished products to identify defects, imperfections, or deviations from specifications.
- Collaborate with the team to implement corrective actions and maintain high-quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Adhere to prescribed environmental regulations and guidelines related to waste disposal and sustainability.
Documentation and Reporting: - Keep detailed records of production activities, including materials used, machine settings, and project timelines as outlined in company standard operating procedures.
- Document and report any machine malfunctions, maintenance requirements, or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist in inventory management by monitoring wood and tool supplies and communicating needs to the management team.
Requirements: - High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in woodworking is a plus.
- Proven experience in operating CNC machines, preferably in a woodworking or manufacturing environment.
- Advanced beginner-intermediate skill level — you’ll continue to hone your skills with us.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, including wood selection, joinery, and finishing.
- Familiarity in reading and interpreting technical drawings or design specifications.
- Proficiency with at least one CAD/CAM software for CNC programming machines, including CNC laser and CNC router.
- Ability to troubleshoot machine malfunctions, perform routine maintenance, and make adjustments as necessary is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring precision and accuracy in woodworking processes.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with designers, clients, and team members.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to follow them diligently.
- Willingness to continue learning and developing skills in woodworking and digital fabrication.
