Suite 3110 Baltimore, MD 21209 Position Summary: Reports to Director and is responsible for the management and ongoing support of the backbone network infrastructure and associated core components.
Works with LAN administrators, functional managers, application development managers, end users, IT directors, as well as departmental IT personnel to ensure that the effective products and management techniques are utilized in the environment.
Position will work with various user committees to develop Network standards, as well as cabling standards.
Ensures that centralized processes are designed based upon customer requirements and in conjunction with customer input.
Ensures that policies and procedures are followed.
Determines the requirements for end user training programs.
Knowledge: Demonstrated experience dealing with a diverse customer set with differing goals and the ability to pull customer needs together into a strategic plan.
Expert knowledge of Cisco Networking products, Ethernet, ATM, Frame-Relay, SONET, and optical technologies.
Experience and understanding of metropolitan based network designs, inclusive of Gigabit Ethernet, SONET, and optical based technologies.
Good understanding of current and emerging technologies, operating systems and connectivity issues.
Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a positive customer service attitude.
Demonstrated ability to establish and meet work schedules within limited time frames and under tight deadlines.
Proven prior experience leading other initiatives related to the management of an enterprise-wide network backbone infrastructure or a comparable leadership role with equal or greater complexities.
Ability to manage high-level technical engineers and provide a strategic vision for backbone network connectivity.
Education: A Masters degree in a related technical field as well as a minimum of 4 years experience dealing with enterprise network backbones (30,000+ nodes), ISPs, advanced routing (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), fiber optics, SONET technologies, class-A/B address space management, and large-scale application systems.
or A Bachelors degree in a related technical field in addition to a minimum of 6 years experience dealing with enterprise network backbones (30,000+ nodes), ISPs, advanced routing (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), fiber optics, SONET technologies, class-A/B address space management, and large-scale application systems.
Work Experience: Minimum of four years prior management experience in an environment with similar position responsibilities and complexities.
A minimum of six years experience dealing with large scale enterprise networking, inclusive of operations, maintenance, change management, planning, installation, troubleshooting, budgeting, and management of technical staff.
Machines, Tools, Equipment: Work requires a strong technical understanding of routed and routing protocols (TCP/IP, AppleTalk, IPX, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF), VLAN configurations, network designs, fail-over configurations, redundancy (HSRP, Layer-3 routing, Spanning Tree); Experience using up-to-date network sniffer products.
Expert understanding using Cisco hardware and software, inclusive of various versions of Cisco, Inc.
IOS on all platforms.
Strong familiarity with PC and Server hardware and software operating systems and connectivity products; Strong understanding of LAN network operating systems and connectivity issues.
Working Conditions: 1.
Work generally involves group meetings and interactions within an office environment.

Work may cause mental/visual fatigue due to attention to detail, and the stress associated with adherence to tight deadlines, significant overtime and frequent use of CRT.
