Nature of Work
This position will work as part of a two-person team to inspect and document the materials of water service lines for residential and commercial customers.
The work is part of a program to identify and report lead service lines as required by the Maryland Department of the Environment.
Work will include measurement of pipe size and performing simple tests to identify pipe material.
Observations will be recorded using photographs and an inspection program on a tablet computer.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to use a digital camera and tablet to take photographs and record measurements and observations.
Ability to interact courteously with customers while scheduling and performing inspections of pipe installation in properties.
Ability to work as a team to follow written protocols for inspections in meter vaults and buildings.
Ability to drive a vehicle using a navigator on a tablet to specific addresses.
Ability to walk and kneel at meter vaults to perform inspections.
Ability to use simple hand tools and pumps to open and clean out meter vaults.
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED Certificate.
LICENSE
Possession of a valid Class “C” non-commercial driver’s license with no more than three (3) points.
Be advised this position requires a valid driver’s license.

SAFETY
Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH) safety regulations and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position.
This position may be subject to the hazards of working near traffic areas and exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including work boots, which will be provided by the County.
Applicants for this position will be expected to work in the field, with limited time in the office.
Some physical labor is required to open small meter vaults and perform inspections.
Physical entry into vaults is not required.

These positions may be subject to the hazards of working at or near construction sites, around heavy equipment, in or near heavy traffic areas, and exposure to adverse weather conditions.
