Job Description: Performs technical work within the Survivability/Lethality Directorate.
The work requires the ability to learn and apply established methods, procedures, and techniques relative to vulnerability testing of vehicles and their subsystems and lethality testing of munitions and weapon systems.
The VLT II performs standardized or prescribed tasks related to test setup, test execution, test teardown, test item disposition, and facility operation under the direct supervision of more senior VL technicians, test officers, or facility managers/operators.
He/she receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments and is subject to a review of the technical adequacy of routine work.
The VLT II may participate in tasks that relate to assembly/construction/setup of targets, target stands, arenas, soil test pits, and witness packs; installation of armors, stowage, fire suppression, or basic instrumentation on target vehicles; pre-post shot checks of vehicles; operation and maintenance of specialized facility equipment such as range fire suppression systems, air filtration systems, oil/water separators, fireball generator, soil density and moisture gauges, and ballistic sled tracks; transport of equipment, stowage, and ammunition to/around the test site; disassembly/demil of targets; operation of tools, vehicles, equipment, and (occasionally) weapons; recording of test data.
The VLT II may support operations at various Survivability/Lethality Directorate test ranges or may be assigned to a specific test facility (i.
e.
, AA-5, Fords Farm, etc.
).

Essential Functions Form: UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION Performs a variety of manual and mechanical functions including assembly or installation of equipment or parts, weapons operation, and/or transport and handling of ammunition.
Work requires the ability to learn and apply established methods, procedures, and techniques supporting combat vehicles, weapons systems, and ammunition testing.
The ability to climb into, out of, on and around machinery, weapons, vehicles or vessels in the water (up to 50%).
The ability to squat, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, and crouch is required (up to 50%).
Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (up to 25%).
The ability to push and pull as well as lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required (up to 75%).
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment is primarily outside on various test ranges.
The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures and other outdoor climatic conditions is required (up to 85%).
Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (up to 85%).
Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task.
Position will require multiple task efforts.
Work may require being assigned to shift work (up to 30%).
Work may require working overtime (up to 30%).
Travel may be required if testing is performed in areas away from the installation (up to 30%).
EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS Supports a variety of tests and test preparation which may require assistance in test set ups and tear down, test data collection, and basic instrumentation preparation.
Work may require lifting, moving, shoving, wedging, digging, hammering, minor rigging, and using simple and complex hand tools.
The requirements include the ability to work on unprotected heights, be around moving machinery or equipment, and drive auto equipment, forklifts and other equipment as needed.
Work requires operating up to 25k forklift, mobile crane up to 15 ton, and may require operation of unique heavy material handling equipment such as 50k forklift, facility bridge crane, etc.
CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours.
Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice.
Work may require working overtime (up to 30%) OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter.
Must be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance.

Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas.
May be subject to hearing test and complete blood count.
If working with depleted uranium, an Urinebioassay and Invivo lung scan may also be required.
May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned.
May be subject to exposure to noise, lasers, humidity (simulated or real), fumes, exhaust, dusts, and dangerous or hazardous environments, e.
g volatile fuels, high pressure gases and depleted uranium.
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required.
Must have a valid driver’s license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a contractor driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
