CLASS DESCRIPTION
Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking a part-time IT Specialist to provide support by giving technical assistance and support to the agency’s systems users.
The IT Specialist will work a conventional work week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 10 a.
m.
– 6 p.
m.
; some weekends maybe required.
This a temporary position; the incumbent for this position shall not exceed two years of temporary employment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Installs, tests, and replaces memory, disk storage, network, video, adapters, circuit boards and internal components and peripheral devices in microcomputers and workstations.
Installs and configures business or educational software on computers, according to standard procedures.
Responds to user inquiries regarding the use of common software and network procedures and may assist in the staffing of a Help Desk.
Investigates error situations and minicomputer or microcomputer or microcomputer malfunctions; resolves or refers to supervisor or vendors; performs minor maintenance.
Utilizes computer equipment, software, and diagnostic tools to perform a broad range of customer assistance, production job processing, equipment maintenance and repair and computer operations assignments.
Manages small projects efficiently by defining objectives, allocating resources, and monitoring progress to ensure timely completion.
Collaborate with cross-functional team members across multiple domains, offering assistance and updates as needed.
Provides telephone, in-person, and online support to end-users.
Develops knowledge of systems software by studying technical manuals and by observing software
Supports mobile devices and has knowledge of multiple OS versions such as Android OS and Apple IOS and mobile apps.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED Certificate and completion of a certification program at a recognized college or technical institute in computer information systems or in computer repair.
EXPERIENCE: Have one year of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of IBM-compatible personal computers or business workstations, including the installation and testing of network interface adapters may be substituted for completion of a certification program at a college or technical institute.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of computer hardware, including processors, memory, disk storage systems, modems, and network adapters.
Knowledge of networking concepts and operating systems, including security systems and transmission protocols.
Knowledge of common business software, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and graphics software.
Ability to train others in the use of common business software and computer procedures.
Knowledge of iPhone operating systems, troubleshooting techniques, update procedures, and device compatibility to efficiently support and maintain iPhones across various domain.
Knowledge of common project management metrics and procedures
