Primary Purpose
Plan and coordinate activities and assignments that ensure Construction staff and equipment are utilized efficiently to achieve construction objectives, and lead efforts that ensure Construction staff possess necessary and appropriate resources and safety training or materials.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate daily crew assignments and equipment deployment.
Determine resource needs for construction crew and resolve.
Ensure charged staff time matches assignments.
Act as a coordinating contact among project managers and field leaders/crews, as needed.
Conduct frequent on-site assessments of construction activities to optimize safety, quality, and productivity.
Model safe techniques and methods.
Cooperate in efforts to systematize and document training protocols, timelines, and modules.
Contribute insights related to estimating, site assessments, constructability reviews, and pre-construction meetings that enhance efficiencies and inform bids, designs, and construction approaches and options, as appropriate.
Cooperate with project managers to ensure vendors/materials service each active site.
Partner with HR on safety training program(s)
Verify the accuracy of receipts, tickets, and packing lists related to construction crew purchases.
Oversee efforts to allocate, track, and monitor vehicles and equipment.
Resolve conflicts and interpersonal issues among construction crew and engage with HR as necessary.
Anticipate and recognize hiring needs and collaborate with HR to accomplish manpower goals.
Coordinate staff evaluations for construction function in cooperation with HR.
Cooperate in efforts to fulfill Pre-Qualifications, licenses, and certifications, as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
HS diploma is required; college degree preferred.
Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in construction or a similar production environment, including at least three years with supervisory duties.
Competent understanding of uses for job-site tools and equipment.
Ability to communicate successfully orally and in writing.
Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Must demonstrate a positive attitude, adaptability, and customer-service commitment.
Ability to move and lift 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
Typically, the Construction Group Lead will divide his/her time between inside and outside duties.
Incumbents may sit or stand at a workstation much or all of a workday.
Continuous use of arms and wrists to manipulate computers and drafting equipment as well as routine exposure to computer screens is a regular aspect of the position.
Site visits to active construction projects are common.
Exposure to unstable footing and hot or cold temperatures or other weather extremes may be common.
