Located in downtown Baltimore near the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards, you won’t find a more vibrant place to work! Job Description General Summary Under general supervision, maintains the Unit Based Medication Cabinets (UBC) for the storage and delivery of medications in patient areas.
Performs UBC user education and training to hospital personnel.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
Customizes factory-assembled Unit Based Medication Cabinets to meet the medication storage and delivery needs of the patient care and pharmacy areas as assigned.
Educates medical, nursing and pharmacy staff on UBC features and their use.
Acts as a liasiaon with user and manufacturers.
Trouble-shoots software and hardware problems including but not limited to UBC “Color Touch” software .
Responds to day-to-day system malfunction reports from pharmacy, medical and nursing staff.
Ensures UBC restock report generation according to the established schedules.
Installs Unit Based Medication Cabinets and licensed features to assigned nursing units and outpatient areas.
Completes installation projects of licensed system features with assistance from manufacturer’s representatives Maintains UBC Unit Based Cabinet System Periodically evaluates par versus usage reports to determine optimum stocking levels and reorder points.
Maintains item nomenclature according to the Department of Pharmacy policies Processes medication recalls when required in accordance with departmental policy and procedure Ensures area is kept clean and organized.
Maintains signage around the Unit Based Cabinets in patient care and pharmacy areasResponds to telephone and pager requests and provides excellent customer assistance to user departments.
Communicates problems to the UBC Administrator for resolution, as necessary.
Observes established departmental policies, procedures, behavioral and attitudinal norms, and quality assurance programs, safety, security, environmental and infection control standards.
Performs requested inspections of pharmacy areas.
Properly handles hazardous substances by observing and demonstrating proper safety procedures and/or "Universal Precautions," as appropriate.
Participate in training new pharmacy employees.
Attends in-vendor training and various educational programs to maintain adequate support of UBC’s.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program and Registration with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician is required.
6 months experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting with experience using Unit Based Cabinets and other automation software required.
Must successfully completes UBC System Administrator Training provided by vendor.
Ability to perform mathematical operations required in recording and counting of inventory, processing supply requests and for record keeping purposes, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Experience working with computer applications and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
Ability to analyze, visualize and trouble shoot problems both remotely and in person is necessary.
Ability to work as part of a team to accomplish departmental goals and objectives.
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to work with medical, nursing and various allied health staff in order to successfully provide optimal patient care.
