Description:
Shop foreman oversees the repairs, installation, and upkeep of Company equipment while overseeing staff who perform skilled and routine maintenance of trucks, cranes, tractors, and other vehicular equipment, thus maintaining the highest standard of all company equipment.
Shop foreman maintains maintenance procedures, tracks budgets and expenses, and performs inspections to problem solve and to make repairs.
Independent judgment concerning work methods and procedures is required, and the work is subject to inspection during process and upon completion for quality and conformity with requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the construction, assembly, adjustment, and maintenance of trucks, cranes, tractors, and automotive equipment (e.
g.
, hydraulic cranes, forklifts, tractor trailers, and other miscellaneous equipment).
Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and equipment of the truck, crane, and automotive mechanic trades; knowledge of the operation of gasoline, diesel, and propane engines, on-board computer systems, air brake systems, and transmissions.
Considerable skill in the application of methods and techniques used in the trucks, cranes, tractors, and automotive equipment and in the use and care of pertinent tools, equipment, and facilities.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to lift and carry heavy equipment; and good physical condition.
Must have the ability to learn and operate technical test equipment and to test repaired equipment.
Ability to diagnose defects and provide time and material estimates for repairs.
Proven ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Must be highly motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to work under pressure effectively and adapt to an ever-changing schedule in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to manage the work of the team while demonstrating strong customer focus skills, effective documentation, teamwork, detail-oriented, and communication skills.
Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.
Education, Training, and Experience
High school diploma or GED.
Six years’ experience in the field of automotive repair and/or apprenticeship training program/Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification (e.
g.
, heavy truck, crane, and tractors).
Possesses a Class C driver’s license; preference given to those possessing a Class A commercial driver license (CDL).
Mobile crane experience preferred, especially with Grove, Link Belt, and Liebherr cranes.
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform in the position may be considered.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
· Conducts all business in a professional, respectful manner and in accordance with Digging & Rigging Inc.
’s policies and procedures and outlined in the Compact of Respect.
· Performs general automotive repair work on trucks, cranes, tractors, and other vehicular equipment.
Inspects, adjusts, and replaces/repairs necessary units and related parts as needed.
· Repairs and diagnoses mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, identifies problems, and provides possible solutions.
Determines/estimates the cost and time that the repair would involve.
· Performs routines maintenance of equipment.
May be required to run road and service calls for disabled trucks, cranes, etc.
· Performs preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, booms, electrical systems, including troubleshooting onboard computer systems, hydraulic systems (booms, outriggers, pumps) brakes, and other basic components.
· Road tests equipment to locate defects and check repair work.
· Performs related assignments as required.
Special Requirements
· Must have enough physical strength and stamina to lift, move, and/or manipulate objects up to 100 pounds.
· Position requires standing for extended periods of time and the completion of work requires considerable physical exertion.
Exposure to inclement weather is possible.
· Must be reliable, punctual, and able to function at a high level as part of a team.
· Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
