This position is focused on the Federal Government treatment facilities for the Department of Defense, Veteran’s Affairs, and Indian Health Services.
Account selling responsibilities are focused on Respiratory Disease and Cardiovascular Disease with the medicines AstraZeneca promotes to address these unmet medical needs.
Respiratory disease is one of AstraZeneca’s main therapy areas.
We have a growing portfolio of medicines that reached more than 25 million patients in 2021.
Our aim is to transform asthma and COPD treatment through inhaled combinations at the core of care, biologics for the unmet needs of specific patient populations and scientific advancements in disease modification.

Our capability in inhalation technology spans both pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) and dry powder inhalers (DPIs), as well as our innovative Co-Suspension TM Delivery Technology.
Our research is focused on four key biological pathways: eosinophilic disease, Th2-driven disease, epithelial-driven pathobiology, and autoimmunity.
Main Duties and Responsibilities The primary responsibility of the Federal Specialist is to engage key stakeholders within complex Department of Defense Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) and Veteran’s Administration Medical Centers (VAMC).
You will build strong network relationships throughout these complex institutions including medical, pharmacy, case management, quality department and clinical services teams across Pulmonology, Allergy, Cardiovascular, Internal Medicine, and Primary Care.
The Federal Specialist will utilize all available resources to leverage relationships to achieve business objectives over a multi-state geography.
You will develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of market, demographic, federal payers, and patient populations that influence the account.
You will work with Federal Market Access leadership to gain a better understanding of quality programs and initiatives, EMR and treatment algorithms for targeted patient populations.
As the account manager, you will utilize your acquired customer knowledge to understand the needs of the customer and organize into strategic account plans.
You will develop and maintain an understanding of the dynamics within the assigned geography in which the customer operates to support and drive business objectives.
You will collaborate with internal stakeholders across the BBU regarding customer-specific learnings, programs, activities, and pull-through brand messages with aligned local cross-functional teams.
You will deliver on sales and specified key performance objectives by demonstrating comprehensive understanding of the AstraZeneca portfolio brand strategies and disease state knowledge, so each portfolio brand can be effectively positioned with the customer and consistent with the overall brand strategies.
You will achieve and exceed sales goals using all available resources in a strategic manner, capturing activity within your accounts, developing, and maintaining strategic action plans using a variety of analytical tools to accomplish the territory’s sales objectives.
You will capitalize on formulary approvals and other opportunities through effective implementation of the Strategic Targeting Plan.
You will work with Sales Leadership, National Account Directors, Scientific Affairs and State Government Affairs to execute a national strategy that works cross-functionally to develop a business plan to generate recognizable increases of portfolio sales.
You will work closely with and support the Commercial Business Director’s efforts.
You will work with customers to prioritize account projects and initiative that address changing customer and market requirements.
Essential Requirements • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in: o Pharmaceutical sales experience; and/or o Biotech or Healthcare sales including experience with different account customer types; and/or o Account-based selling experience with knowledge of pharmacy and medical purchasing • A valid driver’s license and safe driving record • Willingness to travel.
Travel can be 75%+ depending on location.
Desirable Requirements • Military Treatment Facility and/or Veteran’s Administration experience to include Command Structure and Federal Culture • Hospital experience, account management experience and ability to influence within healthcare systems • Strong networking skills and ability to create avenues for access among restricted accounts or limited access facilities • Ability to understand customer specific needs, identify resources and opportunities to partner.
