Horizon Day Camp brings the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into summers filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness.
And because Horizon is a day camp, it does all this while allowing the children to continue their medical treatment and enjoy the comfort and safety of their own homes at night.
Horizon Day Camp-Baltimore is a proud member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings worldwide.
Sunrise accomplishes this through the creation and oversight of welcoming, inclusive summer day camps, year-round programs and in-hospital recreational activities, all offered free of charge.
Horizon is seeking an *Assistant Camp Director* for the Summer 24 camp season.
Camp dates are TBD, but are expected to run for 8 weeks starting at the end of June.
Job responsibilities are as follows:
*Administrative Duties*
* Work with the Camp Director to recruit, interview, train, supervise and motivate staff and volunteers
* Track all staffing applications, references, and hiring information (position, hours, compensation, etc.
)
* Work with Camp Director to plan camp programing
* Supervise, assign, track and evaluate all camp volunteers.
Interview camp volunteers
* Adhere to camp timeline ad determined by the camp director
* Plan and implement staff orientations and training sessions with Camp Director prior to and during camp season
* Organize facility and other equipment and program supplies at the camp site and work with necessary personnel to insure their being in good working order for the camp season.
* Circulate all schedules and memos to Unit Heads, Specialists, other staff and volunteers
* Assist Camp Director in the planning and implementation of camp Open Houses
*Program Duties*
* Work with the Camp Director to set a positive, upbeat, energizing yet responsible tone for both staff and campers
* Assist Camp Director in the development and planning of the camp’s summer program activities and schedules
* Assist Camp Director in all Open House programs, registration programs and on-site parent orientations
* Develop on-site camp program calendars, schedules and events
* Hire, arrange and confirm logistics necessary for entertainment and special events
* Plan and implement staff appreciation events during the summer
* Assist in transportation arrival/dismissal
* Assist Camp Director with parent communication
* Motivate and supervise staff
* Supervise all staff and camp program in the absence of the Camp Director
* Enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
* Observe and assess camper and staff behavior, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
* Assist Camp Director in carrying out emergency procedures
* Evaluate Specialists and volunteers (verbal and written, mid-summer and end of summer) and make recommendations for future camp seasons
