At select times, Historic Ships in Baltimore is looking to add to our team of dedicated historians responsible for the care and preservation of Maryland's naval landmarks.
Visitor Services Representative - Part Time JOB SUMMARY The Visitor Services Representative (VSR) position is a part-time, hourly position with the Museum’s front-line staff at the Pier I and V ticket centers and gift shops.
Part-time status means that VSRs may be scheduled to work up to 40 hours a week frequently, but will average 29hrs or less per week over the course of a year.
VSRs are expected to be available on weekends and holidays as directed, and to perform all responsibilities, general and specific listed below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Primary Responsibilities: Serving as the primary contact with visitors to the museum, including greeting, interacting, communicating with them, and addressing their concerns and questions.
Providing high quality visitor experience including maintaining a positive attitude, politeness, and friendliness toward all visitors.
Performing daily, routine duties and minor custodial tasks in accordance with museum protocols, directives, and instruction.
Keeping gift shop shelves neat and stocked with merchandise.
Use computer-based point-of-sale system to process ticket and merchandise payments.
Practicing safe, effective, and exemplary work habits.
Being an effective co-worker who promotes a positive work ethic, good morale, and professionalism among ship’s staff and volunteers.
Knowing and communicating ticketing and operations policies, prices, and information to visitors.
Being aware of and complying with Museum directives and protocols, written and verbal, associated with the sites, including those of other departments and Department Heads.
Serving as the primary contact for visitors to managing ticketing, will-call, merchandise, and event registration sales and check-ins.
Organizational Responsibilities: Supporting museum-sponsored efforts such as, “all-hands” activities/evolutions to include, but not limited to: 4thof July celebration; New Year’s Eve celebration; “Victory Night”, “The Blast,” and Pearl Harbor Day ceremonies.
Learning and demonstrating mastery of procedures and protocols for handling admission and retail operations at all HSB locations.
Informing each visitor of updates to daily operations such as site closures, program updates, etc.
Working Museum special and catered events as assigned.
While on duty, wearing clean, and serviceable dress complying with dress code.
Being available, generally, for weekends, holidays, overnight programs, and special evening programs/events.
Knowing and informing visitors about Baltimore Water Taxi tickets and operations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS Must effectively handle visitor questions and concerns, stressful situations, and demonstrate an ability for decisiveness and quick thinking.
At least a High School Diploma, or current student status.
Must be able to do physical activity within the environment described below.
Must be available for weekend and holiday work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Visitor Service Representatives (VSRs) must be able to do all manner of physical activities associated with boarding and departing the ships and buildings, opening and closing the sites, working outdoors sometimes during inclement weather conditions, and they must be physically capable of moving through the buildings and ships and performing all tasks associated with emergency procedures.
VSRs may be required to shovel snow from the piers and the ship weather decks and gangways.
VSRs will occasionally work catered events that will require working late, sometimes until after midnight, as well as special programs which may require working late.
