The Billing Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks requiring data analysis, in-depth evaluation, and sound judgment.
The Billing Specialist's daily duties will include maintaining billing software, researching denied claims, and analyzing all claim data.
To succeed in this role, one must possess in-depth knowledge of billing software and State Medicaid insurance policies as well as display problem solving skills.
Essential Functions:
Review and verify patient information for accuracy and completeness.
Prepare clean claims and transmit daily electronic claims and/or manual claims.
Verify accuracy of claim data and correct any errors.
Follow up on unpaid claims and investigate and process denied claims by resubmitting denied claims within billing cycle time frame.
Communicate with insurance companies to resolve billing issues or discrepancies.
Post EOBs/Payments received using billing software.
Work with therapists and counselors to provide support and internal customer service.
Utilize financial background and business processes to identify missed billing opportunities.
Communicate and respond to any billing inquiries.
Effectively communicate to staff, insurance agency and any other agencies
Keep records of invoices and supporting documents
Track billing by updating billing spreadsheets and current billing reports.
Maintain confidentiality; adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Complete various reconciliations
Complete various daily, weekly, and monthly billing reports
All other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS preferred.
Associates required
Previous medical billing experience; 1-3 years’ experience in Behavioral health-care billing & collection practices
Experience working with Medicaid and private insurance
Working knowledge of medical billing systems
Experience with Maryland Medicaid’s Eligibility Systems
Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems; Coding certification preferred
Excellent organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
