Ballard Spahr LLP is seeking a high performing and detail-oriented individual to assist the attorneys in the Real Estate Department’s Affordable Housing and Community Development practice group.
This position can be resident in Philadelphia, Baltimore, New Jersey, or Washington DC.
The successful candidate will undertake a range of tasks and responsibilities that include:
Primary:
Develop and maintain checklists for large-scale real estate transactions, and track documents for those transactions.
Coordinate document submissions to U.
S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development and other parties.
Track and manage due diligence, coordinate and implement transactions and work with team to close transactions.
Prepare closing indices and binders, and follow up on an extensive array of post-closing matters.
Review title, survey, and title commitments and respond to title and survey comments from counterparties.
Work directly with the title companies to finalize title policies for transactions and coordinate document recordation.
Prepare signature page packets and coordinate signatures of various deal participants.
Assist attorneys in preparation for, and attend closings.
Track transaction tasks and phases and communicate progress to team as issues and/or items are resolved.
Additional:
Work with vendors and/or agencies to order various due diligence certificates and searches.
Conduct research and gather information using general and legal research tools.
Research industry databases, publicly-available information from local governments and other sources.
Other responsibilities as client needs dictate.
Required Skills
This position requires excellent organizational, communication, analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as exceptional drafting and proof-reading skills.
Must be able to work independently, as well as with a team and with clients.
Intermediate-level skills working with Microsoft Office applications, document management systems and time-keeping software are necessary.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate for this position will have a college degree and 3+ years of paralegal experience, preferably within a law firm.
Experience managing and tracking large document submissions or transactions required.
Affordable housing, commercial real estate, finance, or litigation discovery experience strongly preferred.
Title and survey experience preferred.
Must be able to work overtime when needed.
