The Office of the Attorney General, Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO), is seeking applicants for a full-time contractual Assistant Attorney General that is responsible for advice and counsel on procurement issues, race- and gender-conscious remedial measures, and strategies for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
MEDCO was established by the Maryland General Assembly in 1984 to relieve unemployment in the State; encourage an increase of business activity and commerce and a balanced economy; help retain and attract business activity and commerce; promote economic development; and promote the health, safety, right of gainful employment, and welfare of residents of Maryland.
MEDCO uses innovative financing plans, including bond financing, to develop property for economic purposes which serve the public interest.
The Assistant Attorney General will primarily provide advice to support MEDCO’s efforts to remedy discrimination and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion it its contract, commercial, and real estate work, using measures that include developing, implementing, and monitoring remedial programs and diversity initiatives for small businesses and businesses owned by minorities, women, and members of other historically underutilized groups.
*EXPERIENCE: *The ideal candidate will have excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills; a minimum of 3 years of experience in contracting, government procurement, negotiation, remedial programs, and/or anti-discrimination law.
Previous government/public sector experience and general familiarity with or experience in commercial financing and real estate transactions is preferred.
Membership in good standing in the Maryland Bar is required.

*EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS: * The successful candidates who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.
As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.
The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.
You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
