Position Overview The Music teacher promotes and develops successful learning for student's music classes.
The teacher also performs instructional and related duties as they pertain to the state and district standards in Music education.
The Music teacher must perform duties in accordance with District Policies and terms of the teacher contract.
The teacher also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.
Requirements: Responsibilities Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Have a thorough understanding of the requirements related to state and district standards in Music education Be capable of developing course goals related to state and district standards in music education Use techniques and introduce appropriate methods of teaching that enable all students to meet the state and district benchmarks for music education Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods Promote high levels of achievement in relation to individual student ability Use techniques and methodologies appropriate to student ability Demonstrate knowledge of and abilities to use research-based principles of effective instruction Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement Monitor student learning and pace instruction accordingly Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective student learning Develop written rules of classroom behavior and communicate those rules to all students Enforce written rules for classroom behavior Communicate course goals and academic expectations to students Prepare effectively for class Provide instruction predicated on course goals and objectives, aligned with district-adopted standards Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education or subject field (required) Must have or be eligible for certification by OSSE in the appropriate content area (must obtain within one (1) year of employment) Experience working with incarcerated or at-risk youth (preferred) Familiarity with research-based instructional strategies An unyielding belief that with the appropriate support, coupled with high expectations, all students can significantly improve their academic skills and can develop pro-social and culturally normative behaviors that will enable them to succeed at school and beyond Site Description The Maya Angelou Academy at New Beginnings is a long-term juvenile facility located in Laurel, MD.
Maya Angelou Academy at New Beginnings serves youth ages 13-21.
The school is located inside New Beginnings Youth Development Center.
Our students develop the academic, social, and employment skills they need to build rewarding lives and promote positive change.
