We are looking for a Boast Hybrid Instructor - Algebra and Engineering who will create a nurturing and supportive environment for the students and be available for live interaction during set virtual office hours AND for in-person sessions with students at the school site approximately three times per month.
Instructors will be responsive to questions, proactive with guidance, communicate with the students regularly, and mentor the students as they work.
During the in-person sessions, instructors will implement provided lesson plans to launch students on sections of the modules.
The object is to engage students by getting them to think and participate rather than being lectured to.
Students who participate in BOAST will have a broad range of experiences and abilities and will come from diverse backgrounds.
The instructors must be prepared to accommodate a multitude of learning styles and foster a sense of community in person AND within an online course platform.
Finally, instructors must be able to engage, encourage, and excite the students.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities Class Culture Develop a sense of classroom community for a class of approximately 20 students participating in the BOAST program at a school site.
Set norms and expectations.
Conduct team building/social and emotional learning discussions.
Provide referrals to mental health clinicians, when needed.
Connect and check-in with students and families if students stop attending the program.
Planning & Preparation Participate in instructor training prior to the start of the program (October) and several times throughout the year.
Complete each engineering activity using the student materials prior to the students engaging with them.
Review supplemental materials to prepare for implementation.
Teaching Introduce modules to students at designated in-person sessions (approximately 3 times per month) using provided lesson plans.
Monitor online platform and respond to student questions within 24 hours.
Deliver supplemental lessons (provided to you) to students based on need.
Host at least two hours of virtual office hours per week (specific days/times TBD) Assist students by providing appropriate accommodations and extensions on an individual basis.
Assess Student Work & Proficiencies Review student work and respond to signs of significant student struggle, as necessary.
Review and provide feedback for project application questions within 48 hours of submission.
Provide feedback for completed projects.
Participate in grading norming sessions for each module with other instructors.
Score student work using a provided engineering design rubric for each module.
Score student content knowledge using a provided math rubric for each module.
Administration Document and effectively communicate with the BOAST team and school-based facilitators about student progress and issues.
Track office hours attendance and report student progress.
Participate in 3 interviews with the research team to assess program effectiveness.
Provide feedback to BOAST team for improvement to program.

Build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
Ability to quickly learn new software, as needed.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Proficient with team collaboration platforms (One Drive, MS Teams, One Note, Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms).
Proficient with online education technologies, such as Blackboard, Google Classroom, or other Learning Management System (LMS).
The ability to work independently following established formats.
Demonstrated ability to lead workshops.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree.
At least 3 years of directly related, successful secondary teaching experience teaching in transformation/turnaround or persistently low-performing context.
Additional graduate level education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
Multiple years Talent Development experience may substitute for teaching certification.
Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree and Teacher certification preferred.
Curriculum development experience is preferred.
The ability to work independently following established formats.
Demonstrated ability to lead workshops.
Prior experience working in urban schools is highly desirable.
Prior experience working in a leadership capacity among teachers and other site-based staff is desirable.
Curriculum development experience is preferred.

30 - Max $49.
