This position oversees the deployment of best in class, evidence-based professional development to local education agencies (LEAs) aligned to professional learning standards that support educator effectiveness and student outcomes.
This position supports continuous development of school leaders through effective professional learning that is relevant, job-embedded, and customized to the needs of individual leaders.
This position provides leadership for compliance monitoring, technical assistance, and evaluation of programs for the federal Title IIA grant.
Additionally, the Coordinator, Professional Development provides high-quality, sustained engagement with LEAs and early learning providers, and other key stakeholders (i.

, institutions of higher education, nonprofits; community-based programs etc.
) in supporting the development and implementation of professional development for every Maryland child, especially those who have been historically underserved.
This position collaborates with MSDE content teams, offices, and divisions to analyze impact and evaluation data from professional development experiences and supports teams in utilizing the data to refine professional development opportunities.
This position supports the Maryland State Department of Education’s efforts in implementing the multiyear Strategic Plan and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
POSITION DUTIES Coordinates the implementation of best-in-class professional development experiences aligned to State and National Standards and evidence-based practices.
Provides coordination and support of statewide high-quality professional development programs and initiatives and provides leadership in working collaboratively with offices, departments, and branches to plan, coordinate, evaluate, and align professional learning initiatives.
Provides leadership and guidance in the alignment and creation of professional development related to the implementation of prekindergarten through 12 high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) to support the implementation of evidence-based curricula.
Formats, revises, edits, and prepares professional development standards, and framework documents for publication on the MSDE website.
Monitors and updates professional development resources on the MSDE website and ensures the use of social media and press releases to celebrate and promote professional development opportunities in close collaboration with MSDE’s Office of Communications and Community Engagement.
Leads stakeholder focus groups, committees, and work groups related to developing state-wide data-based professional learning initiatives.
Represents MSDE and serves in a liaison role with institutes of higher education related to professional development, teacher mentoring, induction, and student teaching and serves as a liaison with institutes of higher education related to professional development, teacher mentoring, induction, and student teaching.
Designs and deploys high-quality professional learning and leadership support.
Develops and maintains a multi-year plan for professional development that is informed by data, input from stakeholders, and aligned with the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and multiyear Strategic Plan.
Identifies exemplary professional development programs, initiatives, research, and resources.
· Leads, coordinates, and facilitates professional learning communities rooted problems of practice and solutions and implements high-quality professional learning across the prekindergarten through 12 spectrum.
Provides leadership for compliance monitoring, technical assistance, and evaluation of programs for the Title IIA federal grant and other grants assigned to the Branch.
Evaluates LEA sub-grants for adherence to federal guidance, use of evidence-based strategies, and outcomes.
Monitors and evaluates the LEA sub-grant budgets for spend-down rates and provides risk assessments.
Provides technical assistance to LEAs in developing and implementing their programs for the federal grants, as appropriate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: A Master’s degree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate coursework in education, education administration, professional learning, curriculum, school leadership or a related area from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE: Five years of administrative or teaching experience in or affiliated professional learning, staff development, curriculum, school leadership, or another related field.
